Not sure if this is helpful but my experience with finding SAE gear oils locally has been a tough so thought I'd pass it on.
Went to grab a litre of EP 90 for the merc and my local crappy tire has stocked SAE 90 marine gear oil. No it is not 140 but it is mineral based SAE and it is cheap. It seems that most seagullians and even British Seagull says EP is ok but SAE smells a hell of alot better and it is a few bucks cheaper per litre.
Below Is the info you need to get your local Canadian Tire to order it in. I specifically asked my local store a few months ago and they assured me that SAE90 did not exist

Bullet, Big thanks turns out there is a stocking dealer within 600kms. Closer then any other source I have found. Will call them monday and see if they have 140 on hand or if they can order it.
Talked to them today and yes 140 SAE is available and he will ship. 1 ($13.95)and 5 ($45.00) litre jugs. Aint cheap but it is available. Huge thanks to Bullet for nailing this one down.

I have found 140 weight gear oil available in the States in the NAPA chain of automobile parts stores - special order, but available at reasonable price.

I get SAE 140 from my local agricultural store apparently it's still used on farm machinery and you get a lifetimes supply as the can is huge for not many dollars.
SAE 90 can be bought in Walmart if nothing else in a Quicksilver brand but is pricey $11 for a quart.
