Not Really an Outboard But!

I just picked up this little stationary engine, It's a Villiers Marvil from 1933. I did a little research and found an interesting point, this little engine gets it's name from the first three letters of each of it's founders MAR-ston and VIL-liers hence MARVIL, also I noticed that the villiers coolie hat mag internals including the coil are similar if not the same as my Marston and this one has a spark :D
The air cooled block/barrel also looks like it would fit a Seagull, air cooled Seagull anyone!!!

I've heard about the Marvil, first time I've seen one. Excellent! Wonder if it is a 102cc? As you say it could have a lot of common bits inside. the villiers factory was close to sunbeamland in Wolverhampton.

The base studs on the bottom of the barrel are the correct distance to fit a Seagull and the exhaust is in the right place, I might strip it down to have a look but all this is blasphemous

I can see me being barred from any Seagull event especially if I turn up with an air cooled Marston!!

The relationship between Villiers & Marston is a lot closer than location, keep researching.

That was some good reading there. Ive noticed theres no cover for the coil and points, Does the flywheel have nothing at all on them motors.

Great article, interesting, Thanks.
From the pictures I have seen it should have a coolie hat type cover, a Marston one may well fit.

Cool engine, now you just need a washing machine to power with it. I have a bunch of the Canadian Iron Horse kick start washing machine engines that were made by Johnson of OB Fame. Our discerning house wives however required 4 strokes.

It will take a coolie hat style flywheel cover, they are a pretty collectable little engine.

One thing that bugs me is that even when contacting Villiers they know nothing of a 5F version 4A water cooled engine.

Absolutely Nuffin! I asked for them to look but have had no reply last 3 years or so. :(
