40 Featherweight with clutch??

After purchasing my first seagull this year (clean 40+) as a backup engine for my Dory, I saw another Seagull advertised on Ebay near me as a non runner. Managed win the auction for a pretty good price and after a days tinkering I've got it running, not the cleanest thing but it now has life again. After doing a model search its come out as a 1969 Featherweight but with what i take is a clutch, with quite a few searches on the net it seems that the featherweight never had a clutch fitted, Is this an addition done in the past? One problem I have is when I shut the throttle the engine still runs. I have adjusted the throttle cable on top of the carb but it still doesnt shut it off, I'm thinking of replacing the spring as the current one does not seem to have the power to push whatever its called down enough in the carb for it to shut off??. Any advise or information would be very appeciated.

If that's F487H9 is a forty Featherweight, but it has a forty plus gearbox.

I guess Its had a few parts changed over the years then, forty plus gearbox but not forty plus prop?

Looks like a weedless 40+ prop
40- prop is a bit smaller

Thats a featherweight powerhead fitted to a clutched 40 plus(FPC) leg. Powerheads were identical I believe. The F has a smaller prop that goes faster, the FPC has the larger slower running prop, with a clutch. You do need to match the correct prop to the correct gearbox, or the engine may not have the welly to turn turn the prop above tickover, or it could over rev.
If the prop slide is sticking then I would strip and clean the carb as if it sticks at low throttle it could also stick at high throttle..

That is the correct prop. Look at the condition of the cable if the engine won't shut off,It is less likely to stick open as the spring is compressed.
A bad kink in the cable can stop the engine from stopping.
Does the cable go through the guide on the crankcase end of the tiller arm?

In addition check for corrosion that prevents the slide to move as it should inside the carb.

Many thanks for all the answers. As I have a 1961 40+ in vey clean condition, this purchase was a project to get it running again, think i must be getting some kind of seagull bug?. Did some work on it again today, cleaned the slide in the carb, came with a spare carb,cable and throttle control so i swapped throttle cables. It now fires second pull from cold, pumps the pencil thick water stream and shuts down on closing the throttle. More than happy with paying the £16.50 purchase price
