Saving Old Seagulls

When I got this engine is was all pretty much painted with a rattle can blue. You would have never guessed there was all the brass/bronze under it.
I know the purists out there will not approve, but this was a good a candidate to introduce to the polishing wheel.
I consider myself to be a purist in that I normally restore to original - so this is not my normal "thing"

Thanks, yes the tank is in really good shape with only a couple small dents, which I left. BTW, most of the polished bits are clear coated, so they do not appear as shiny as they were before clear coating. But to save this from being something that needs frequent polishing, clear coating seemed to me to be the way to go. As I am in Bermuda, I am surrounded by salt air and this stuff would tarnish before your eyes. I have clear coated other engines in the past with good results.

Yes imagine how your beer would not stay cold very long, not sure if I could put up with the blue skies, sunshine and warm water.

Just drink faster, then beer does not get warm

When you are too old and frail to use the motor anymore, you can recycle the engine stand as some sort of aide to help with mobility

Tis funny how the country known for drinking warm beer complain that this to them is a potential problem in Bermuda . lol
I agree Michael it not the Standard restoration , yet it is very cool and having a couple of AC's , one that looks alot like this it is interesting to note your one must have been quite early in the production run , the through then back exhaust and tank/fuel cap style indicate this to me . Is that what others think ? The brass domed nuts on the crankcase are a nice change . I take it runs well too . Nice job thanks for sharing .

Very very nice restoration!! My SD would look like yours but I have decided to paint black the tank. I have another polished one so I am not so tempted.

Thanks, and yes as I have several Seagulls, I thought it ok to polish one, rest are original. The crankcase bolts and cap nuts are actually bronze and they were my addition, not original - just wanted to make that clear.
Also, have since changed the transom bracket to this style:

You could also fit some bent over thumb screws on that older bracket
its an older gearbox and tank that have been added to the power head is it not

I have no idea if the gearbox and tank are original to the motor as I do not know this old stuff all that well. All I know is that was the way the engine came to me.
As for the bent thumbscrews, yes I would have added them if I had them, but I don't
