Had trip out yesterday engine run and push us along but needed lots of fiddling to keep running if you open choke it died needed to have choke mostly on and also backfired and shut down.
I have replaced the needle so it can run on 25:1 tank is all clean fuel line clean and carburettor villiers also looks good although i have not stripped it all down but float chamber has been cleaned and its all free.
But we did have the best fun and many laughs.

Sure sounds like a fuel bloackage somewhere. Have you checked to make sure the filter in the tank is clean? Do you get good flow to the carb? From the sounds of it, you have not done a complete clean of the carb. Suggest you do and use compressed air to blow through all the passages etc.

When you fitted the 25-1 jet needle, did you keep the needle screw flush to the top of the throttle slide
Remove and clean out the fuel tank (50/50 Cuastic soda granuals and water works for me)
Remove and and clean carb and as michael said using compressed air to blow out everything is the best.(keep the needle screw flush to the top of the slide)
Use fresh clean fuel and a TCW-3. 2 stroke outboard oil and mix it to spec. Im not a big fan of using the 25/1 needle because of such running problems like your having.
If it was me, I would put the 10-1 needle back in. But see how you go with that.

Read up all you can on the 170 & it's problems, as it's the same powerhead.
