No spark from SD 102 Ign...

I recently purchased an old SD 102 which had no spark as expected!
I took the flywheel off, and the points + box had been removed, also the coil was dead.
I had a spare Villiers mark 1 points & condenser box which I sent of to Villiers parts along with the baseplate and dead coil.
The coil was replaced and the mark 1 points connected.
Still no spark !
I then noticed that when the flywheel was replaced, it pushed the points arm out so much that the points could not be adjusted to 20 thou. The smallest gap to be achieved was 1cm
Is this simply the wrong points and condenser box, do I need the pre mark 1 model ?
or is it some thing else ?

There must be an adjustment to be done to fix that. At least on wipac III there is.

Looks like the wrong points, what flywheel do you have on it?
Is it a coolie hat or a normal standard Villiers, If its the standard Villiers then I would put the standard base plate on it.
The points should look more like this on the old ignition.

Have a look at.

George at Villiers parts suggested moving the clamp screw for the points to the second fixing point, but no good.

So its either down to elongating the holes in the points base to see if you can get some more adjustment, or a set of original points.

It is the original coolie hat flywheel, brass top.
George @ VP has seen this before and suggests bending the rocker arm back.
These mark 1 points are compatible with this early villiers Ign
There is something wrong some where !

You have the wrong points fitted. You need the screw and locknut type, as per Keith's link above, which should give the adjustment you need. George has these in stock, I believe. More pics available on the forum if you do a search.
The coolie hat magnetos had screw and locknut points, as did the early post engines with flat top ignitions, but with a small rope pulley and slightly different flywheel shape.

The points box that you have there is fine. That type was specified by the army as a replacement type, and it was used by British Seagull's service department too.
As a matter of interest what made you change the points box?
Try fitting the original rocker arm.

Why not fit the correct points? They are tricky to adjust, but to me sourcing and fitting the correct parts is what owning these old motors is about.
You can even get the little spanners to adjust the screw and locknuts, dinky little things

Got a spark!
Gave the arm a tap with a mallet, not the purest way of doing things, but it will do for now.
Will look out for the right points in time.

Actually I would have known that if I had read the OP properly!
Anyway, a spark is a result! Excellent news.
