Saving Old Seagulls

Hello again forum.....Real close to getting a seagull as old as me started (50 yrs old). Thanks alot to Allan for the part....got her back together. I did have to identify the fuel/oil mixture ratio , thanks to the home page from John, I was able to check the needle within the carb. But, I wish I could find a decent owners manual. Maybe even a schematic of the
' Forty Plus'. Johns home page for starting mentions using 'choke', I am not sure exactly what or how this is done. I have an idea, but the small part doesn't move. I can fix that, but want to be sure its the right part.

Also, I am getting fuel from the underside of the carb (the bowl), from my 2 stroke motorcycle days, I would say its a stuck float. I am in the states so my terms maybe different. I am able to pull start her...she's ready.....just need to fine tune a few things. I can't wait.....Thanks all.....Ed

The choke is just the a small flap on the front of the carb, get it moving and you will work it out, it just restricts the air into the carb, to get it started.
Fuel leak, maybe float or a washer's, if its not dripping then its not a major problem.

You'll identify the choke flap from the relevant diagram no bother.

From what you say about the "carb needle" it sounds like a Villers carb but I thought Silver Centuries used 2-jet Amal carbs. No matter there are links to both from the above

Well here she is...runs nice, a little loud, but I imagine she'll be quieter when in the water.

Glad it is now a runner, I love it when they burst into life, after having been stood for years.

Stick it in a trash can and make sure it pumps water.

Now you just have the tank to restore

Looks like the carb is tilted. That maybe why its leaking fuel a bit. It should be upright

Do you have a flywheel cover?
