Is that one yours?
If it is then how much respraying if any have you done?

This engine has been painted and tarted up, then offered for £550
Wrong colour flywheel paint, painted tiller arm bolt, rust on head bolts, where shall I stop.
I bough a similar low use one with less rust for £50.

That's what I thought, H-A. But I wanted the vendor to 'fess up rather than point it out.
Even a genuine untouched mint condition example in its wooden crate with all the paperwork isn't worth £550, surely?

I bet he's sorry he spoke now.
My only question it to other members of this board that own new Seagulls from this era, did Seagull fit the throttle cable through that usless lug on the tiller arm when assembling new motors or does yours have that rubber cable tie thing?

To the seagull idiots who have posted on the condition of this engine, SHOULD HAVE GONE TO SPEC SAVERS,the colour of the fly wheel was requested by the buyer as instructed on the invoice in 1971 Parkway Marine, there is no respraying on this engine tiller arm or anywhere else , it is out of order for seagull annoracs to make comments on the condition without having it infront of them.

No amount of Specsavers visits is going to make the invoice legible on any computer in my house. Interesting if it's as you say but still not original.
Your photos on Ebay do rather look as though the silver spray can has gone over the block, crankcase, gearbox and water pump housing, with spray visible on the gaskets and prop spring etc. The earlier poster is quite right to think it looks like a tarted up motor with a whopping price tag.
If you put a description like that coupled with a huge price tag you really have to accept that people are going to pick holes in it if its not in original condition. Which it doesn't appear to be.

This is what unused ones look like.
If this engine has never been used what are the 4 additional bolts for?
I stand by my original comments.

Ooooooooooh, indeed this guy's right, what the hell do you Seagull Anoraks Know??? How many seagulls have you seen, have any of you ever set eyes on an "original"? Here's a man trying to earn a fast buck and all you guys can do is give him bad publicity.
Obviously he doesn't visit our forum very often, if ever at all otherwise he wouldn't have the audacity to come back and argue.
By the way H-A, that looks an nice engine.

Spot on H-A. I fully agree. A tidy engine but has been flashed over, even the screw threads protruding out of the nuts are silver...
£550? I think I would be happy with £150

I would say Century through lug, 40+/- not through lug with Villiers, but through lug with Amal.

Perhaps if the seller had joined this forum before buying his/her seagull he/she would have been directed to the correct engine to suit his/her boat.
For every displacement boat there is a seagull to suit.
They may even been able to spot the tell tale clues of tarted up engine that our "so called experts" can see from a mile away.
I would be knocking on the door of the original seller and asking for my money back

Then it must have been a ploy to sell lots of throttle cables.
