Fuel overflow from carburetor

Intermittently, fuel keeps flowing continuously out of the carburetor body.
Is this likely to be a sticking float?
How do I confirm that and what is probably the problem & fix?
Thanks

The carburetor is the Amal two jet - offset float chamber bottom feed.

Hello,

First thing is to clean the complete carb and esspecially the float chamber. Second thing is checking the tickler, if this is not working perfect, it could cause overflowing.
Third: Is your float OK? Sometimes it is filling itself with fuel during operation.
Fourth: check whether the neelde is working ok. Maybe it is worn or it is not able to shut the fuel off for the full 100%. This can be a problem what only appears now and then. Try to turn the needle a few times ...

Once a had a leaking carb caused by a bad working float needle. The needle was a bit worn and I polished it with some finest polish what is normally used for valves. This was not with an Amal so I do not know whether this is a good idea or not. Be carefull!

Crumpet - any dirt in the petrol will cause the needle valve to leak, which will cause the problem you mention.

Perhaps carefully pass your petrol through some gauze to see if you have particles of rust or dirt in your tank, especially if it is a steel tank. I believe the Amal carb has a strainer which you should also clean and check with either fresh petrol or 'carb cleaner'

The problem was material in the carburetor chamber - after cleaning it out, the motor runs well - thanks for all the suggestions.
