Seagull recommendations please.

Post by pecan_john »

Hello group. I am new here, but hope to participate in the seagulling adventure. I am currently building a small canal boat called Escargot by designer Phil Thiel. The boat is 18’ long and 6 ‘ wide. It has a rather high transom, so my original plan was to use a Nissan 6 HP with an ultra-long 25â€

Shaft length.

All the Seagulls, except the tiny Featherweight, come in either 15 or 20 inch lengths, to suit transome of those heights.

If you are needing an ultra long shaft Seagulls are not for you. they do not do one!

The EFPC is a 25:1, 3 hp and standard 15" shaft. OK for a dinghy from 10 to 14ft approx.!

I just noticed where you were from Pecan John and thought you might be interested in joining my group of boatbuilders. We build sailboats and get together several times a year for some great times. We would welcome you to join us for our gatherings. Right now we don't have much planned but come spring we will be getting the group together and sailing again. Last year we had a small boat show on Lake Hartwell GA. We had 12 homebuilt boats for folks to come by and enjoy. This year I may take the boat down to Pensecola for the BEER cruise in June. Last year they had about 50 boats and I was told it was a great time for all. It's a sail cruise but crew is always appricated by our members. Check out our website at byyb.org There's a forum for builders and a photo page where you can see our boats and events. Hopefully we'll see you on the water someday with that seagull pushing you along

Hi Keith,
I actually have plans for the Weekender, but didn’t build it because my wife requires a floating out-house if she is going to come along and the Weekender didn’t have the necessary headroom. I was planning on attending the BEER cruise this year but my company cancelled all vacation the day before the trip for some non-existent emergency. I’ll keep an eye on you website for events and will attend one when I can. My first Seagull should arrive any day now.

The Escargot looks like a fun boat, I don't know about pedeling something that big though. It's probably a good thing you're getting a seagull for it. How far along are you on the build?
