Saving Old Seagulls

Confession - I'm terminally untidy in my workshop. It gets used for a multitude of tasks, not just Seagulls, and of course those other tasks don't use BSF spanners etc.

So very quickly after a tidy up the bench is strewn with all manner of bits, with the sockets and wrenches mixed in.

When I need one of my BSF spanners including today's delivery (thanks Charles - delighted!) I can't find them - they're lost in the chaos.

Now you're probably already thinking 'Well tidy up, then' but I'm a bloke, and there's something in me that absolutely prevents me doing that unless I'm in the mood. (usually 2 or 3 times a year)

So today I hit on - and put into effect - a brilliant plan.

I have painted all my BSF stuff BRIGHT ORANGE! Simple, cheap, and very effective.

I can throw them all onto the accumulated scrap/tools/cloths/cigarette packets/ broken things on the bench and they stick out like beacons!

Terrific, eh?

I'm sorry Charles, but as someone that loves good tools, I must say that is absolute sacrilege, in fact I might even say heresy!

How about British Racing Green paint??

But you can't get proper British Racing Green any more - not the same colour they used on the E-Types anyway!

I run a bike recycling workshop staffed by volunteers from "difficult" backgrounds. The only way I can sort the tools back into sets at the end of the day is to put a bit of coloured elec tape on them. Quick & easy to do, generally lasts a couple of years and easy to replace if damaged. Sticking them back on the shadow boards at the end of the day is a quick simple check that none are "lost".
