Congratulations Mark, nice piece of publication. It was an interesting read with a worldwide spread. How often do you hope to issue the newsletter?

I'm sure the issue 2 publication date will be dependant on Mark getting 12 pages of suitable articles & high resolution pictures.

It could range from the scruffiest Seagull to the sexiest boat build story.

What would be nice after looking at the Seagull identifier requests from all over the world to see pictures of your Seagull & boat in locations that the majority of us will never get to see, from Alaska to the Sahara desert, the stranger & more recognisable the better.

Yes, as Charles said, once we have enough articles and News to do another issue, we'll put it together and post it up.

But I'm thinking twice a year, so the next one will be in the New Year, unless we get swamped with stories and photos! [Hint! Hint!]

BTW, I had a glitch attempting to download the PDF file via the link above - Adobe Reader crashed - has anyone else had that problem?

Hi Mark,

All worked well for me.

Excuse this luddite, but when photographing, what is high resolution on a digital camera? After pressing multiple buttons on my camera a menu of pixels came up and I'm assuming this has something to do with resolution? Mine is on 1024 but can go down to 540 or up to 7m which I assume is a latin M for 1000 and not a million...

Am I on the right track? And what should I set it on, providing I can manage to get back to that place again

That's about right, the more mega-pixel's the better, the only drawback is you have to reduce the size of the picture to attach on this forum.
The more mega-pixel's or resolution you use, the bigger the memory size of the picture.

What makes you think it's a Naval Crown? I had a quick Google around and the only crown I can find associated with the Royal Navy is different.

Be nice if it can be positively identified.

My late father who was an RN (English) Officer and served in WW11 recognised it. Mind you, he was adamant that he had no recollection of ever seeing a Seagull used by the Royal Navy. As he said, "they are far too under powered for the Navy" He served for 21 years.

Interesting though. It is one of the brass SD's.

The Navy has always been a very conservative organisation, and I suppose it could have been a case of 'why have an outboard when you can have any number of skilled seamen, all trained to row and scull' and I suppose they may have had a point. I have spoken with a number of past Royal Engineers who remember using Seagulls, river crossings, pontoon, that sort of thing.

I would still like to know about that crown, though.

Pater did indicate that I should check Australian Naval stores. The number under the Crown could well suggest a stores category.

Looks like a service crown, applied to all sorts of military kit, not just Naval, but Army and Air Force too.

I can remember drawing stores from the QMs with that mark on it! We were, after all "In the service of the Crown."
