Other than it being the original sparkplug for the Seagull does the Champion 8 COM offer any advantages over the D-16?

Well, I had a good 8COM in one of my flock for a while, and IMHO it gave easier starting and was more resistant to fouling. Trouble is, there are very few in good condition around any more, let alone any unused ones.
I wonder how a modern surface gap plug in a suitable adaptor bush would perfom!

I think the 8 COM was just a universal 18mm plug for low compression and potentially oily engines - ie. a 'hot' plug, and that the D16 -D21 or the NGK A6 are equally as good or maybe better, with more modern alloys in the tips.
I have some 8 COM's in my engines which just sit around and look pretty, but all my working engines have D16's or A6's. Rick

Hi ,With reference to the "adaptor plug" i have one in one of my engines. It was on when i bought it and to be honest its a beautifully engineered job.As performance goes its equally as good if not better tnan an 8 com and also the plugs are cheap too
