head gasket

Post by dalliance »

hi all

getting ready to reassemble the forty. i ordered a new head gasket because the old one looked aged. the part numbers are the same sj/122 however the old gasket is 4 layers deep and the new one is 3 layers deep. anybody know a reason for the difference ? 3 layers more compression 4 layers more area. ? which would be the best one to use ?

thanks

If it was me then I'd be confident in the 3-layer gasket, as long as it has a flash ring fitted. (The flash ring is the swaging around the cylinder edge).

There's plenty of clearance inside the Seagull, so no risk of collisions

Suggest spraying the gasket with VHT copper gasket jointing compound. This is very effective in taking up minor surface defects
