I am in the process of stripping and restoring a 40+ FP I826G0. I want to clean the brass mounting bracket. It is green/blue coloured from corrosion. What can I use to clean it to bring it back to a nice shine?
I also want to know what chemical to use to clean the power head and crank housing , bringing it too to a nice clean shine.

I like to grit blast the brass bits with crushed glass. (Garnet is a bit too harsh)
I then get them powder coated in clear to keep them shiny. No more maintenance req after this

I think you will find its bronze and cast so a an acid dip would do, unless you have a shot blaster handy as we all do

Bronze corrosion is nicely removed by soaking in full fat coke for a day. If really bad replace with new coke everyday until it's gone.

I use oven cleaner, spray on, leave for an hour or so and hose off. Works on the worst crud and work into the smallest places with an old tooth brush, simple and cheep

I've sucessfully cleaned the Brass transom brackets with a caustic soda solution-just leave it submerged for a few hours and periodically scrub with an old toothbrush.Be careful!!-use gloves protect eyes and keep kids etc away.It worked for me.
