Can anybody tell me the colour that the flywheel should be on a 1978 40+ with blue steel tank and silver cylinder block, I have looked on the identifier page of SOS and cannot see any to compare this with.
Cannot believe that these old engines breed, now have two to tinker with and think people are right in saying about this on this site.
Have stripped the cylinder head off the other 40+ to clean out water ways as it was pumping water ok but engine was still getting hot and too my suprise the bolts came undone without any hassle. The passages were blocked with crud and brown sludge that wasn't too hard to remove, result

Hello there, the '78 Seagulls had Wipac MkII's and the Flywheels were bronze colour, a hammered finish not unlike Hammerite. However Hammerite do not make a bronze. They do a gold, but it's a bit bright. I used to use that for years...

If you could find it 'Ford escort Mexico Bronze' was the nearest I used to pick up in a car accessory shop, but not seen any for a while, and it is not hammered finish.

There are other hammered paint manufacturers though.

Word of caution, you need a good primer on all ali parts before using Hammerite or most spray paints. In the marine trade the most commonly used now is the can of grey acrylic primer sold at any car accessory shop. (Used to be Zinc Chromate...!)

hope that helps,
Regards,
John
