Recoil Starter Problems

Post by Mark »

I am struggling with the recoil starter system on a QB. The rope was bust, so I replaced both the rope and spring - all good. But I simply cannot get the clutch mechanism to engage the flywheel -the rope just pulls freely out and in again - no engagement. I have checked the assembly order - all correct according to the manual. The mechanism seems to need friction - there are 'friction pads' - are these the source of the problem? Any help would be most welcome.

I had a similar problem with my EFNR model.
Having tried all sorts of remedies, I discovered that, by oiling the mechanism, I had destroyed the friction created when pulling the starter cord to deploy the flat metal grab arms. My solution was to take the mechaism apart again and clean thoroughly with a degreaser. It now works fine.

Hello there, if all fails, I have the little friction pads and the small metal bits that grip the cup! About £6.50 a set plus P&P
