If You are talking about jets in an Amal "Two Jet", I suggest that that would be an absolutely last resort action to remove them if you can not clean them out with carb clean and compressed air!

If you do not have the correct spanner, available SOS, you will run into trouble definitely.

See FAQ on SOS site.

ok thanks. i was under the impression that the "right" spanner was no longer available and that one had to improvise these days.however i take your point about doing it only as a last resort.all i was wanting to find out was whether it had been converted to 25:1 fuel.is there a less risky way to find out?

Delve into the archives. I understand there is the possibility a certain central heating radiator tap key fits.

Not that antipodians have heating radiators or thus would require said keys.

Anyway, just to make a bloke in wet cold Blighty smug - I have two original Seagull keys . . .

Not hard to make something. An old piece of steel brake line 10-15 cm long, heated to cherry red with your propane torch and formed over a piece of steel that is 5mm square or that you have ground to a 5mm square. Make it long enough to bend the other end 90 degrees, there is your wrench. I removed and reinstalled quite a few Amal jets with mine, the corners are slightly broken, but it still works. Then you can put finding the proper wrench on your to do list.

I checked a collection of jets, they all were 0.18" or 4.7mm.

ummmm
this is a no-brainer ....(just love the easy ones )

got to B&Q or similar, buy a brass radiator key about £1-50
knock out the cross pin and braze a bit of a handle on the end
thin down the external sides a little bit if needed

bake for hour and a 1/2
gas mark 5
garnish with glacee cherries and icing sugar
allow to cool and serve

job done

PS ONLY use a soft copper wire to poke out the hole in the jet
...sort of agree with Bruce on this one

After meeting Timberperson - I just can't take him seriously.

Bet he wears a black eyepatch in the showroom . . .

Yep, I used a brass radiator key. Like has been said, knock out the cross pin, I then cut the top half off where the cross pin was located and was then just a simple case of using a flat head screw driver as the cross pin location just leaves a perfect 'screw head'.

I always admire inventiveness etc., but why are all these possibilites better than just buying the proper thing from John?
