Just stripped down my Seagull No GFP 2219A7 and checked the impellor all ok, clean copper pipe out and had hose onto bottom of block and water is running through. Put it all together started it in a tub of water and only got a small trickle now and again. Then it stopped engine started to get hot so stopped running. Any ideas anyone ?

If as you say after checking ;

a) water exit hole in cylinder block is clear, and you can put a hose up against it and force water back through to the water pump housing...

b) you can run it in a water tub and you only have a trickle from the water outlet hole on the block running at 1/4 to third throttle without a prop fitted............and it gets damn hot....

the first conclusion would be a rusted up block.......................although you have a chance that the water pump housing is filled with crud..... or a very 100 to 1 chance that the impeller/drive is defective..... and if the prop shaft was going round ok then rule this possibility out.........

only one thing to do...........

Check the FAQ section on the main SOS website for this problem........John has been here before and written it all up ..

As an example this is a GFP running in a tank in May 2009.....
Image

Virtually impossible to bear the temperature of the block by hand when running ......despite the fact that it was visibly pumping water ...

Shows the pile of crud scraped out that was totally blocking the up and lower water jacket galleries...... A strong belief that this head hasn't been removed since it left the factory so every likelihood that the thread dressing is the original from the factory....anyone seen anything similar on circa 1978 motors?

Well I found out the problem, the block was completly blocked, tried to clean it out with thin wire and the outside casing fell off, guess it was so badly corroded. Now I need another one . DAM ! Lifes not all plain sailing is it !
