Oil leak

Post by Mouse »

Hi,

Have just been given a forty plus mark 2 which starts and runs great but drips oil, apparently from bottom of exhaust tube, after running. How worried should I be?

Cheers,

Mouse

Its normal for a Seagull. Put some thing under it where you store it to avoid staining your floor.

Its not abnormal for 2 stroke outboards as a whole but Seagulls are particularly bad because they run on such an oily mix.

You can also get some oil leaking from the gearbox as well when you lay it down. Be sure to protect the boot of the car with some old newspapers when you transport it.
And the residual fuel in the carb bowl will also spill out in the car boot.

Run the carb 'dry' then drain the residual fuel from the carb onto some paper tissue and use it to wipe down the exhaust and leg to remove excess oil before transport. Always put the foot in a rubble sack and your car boot will be a lot less sticky . . .
