My First Seagull Project

And it seems to be turning into a mission already !!

I brought a cheep LLS off an auction site (my first mistake I suspect)
The guy said it run well but the water flow was a little low
Upon getting it home and having a good look over it there seem to quite a number of bodge fixes
- no idle adjuster on top of the carb.
- Homemade rope pulley and bodge nut
- Half home made transom bracket
- thin plastic tube fuel line
and the worst so far only three crankcase - block studs

not being game to even start it i have stripped off the block only to find that the water delivery tube has been jointed at some stage and the hole where tube goes into the water pump has the side missing so the pipe is really loose also the block had no paper gasket just a very thin layer of RTV silicon

This morning i stood it up so i can soak the bottom bolts with crc i noticed that the big end bolts on the bottom of the rod are both loose (still wired)

Is this still a project worth continuing with ?
or do I just have a load of spare parts ?

Trade me is not usually that bad.

Depending on where you are there are people that you could talk to for advice & assistance that are not half a world away from you.

I'm sure Seagull Restorations & Simply Seagulls will be able to help you with spares localy.

Thanks Charles
I am going to strip the rest down tonight just in case I have any more surprises and then I will take a drive down country to see Simply Seagulls.
I appreciate all advice even if it is half a world away its the best way to learn

Well i have just returned from my trip to Simply Seagulls.
Jan and Graham were absolutely fantastic within minutes Graham had the rest of the gearbox in parts and the verdict ........ its not a Lemon but rather a collection of lemons joined together the new finds as the result of my trip are

- Rounded end on the Drive shaft
- Rounded end on the shaft going into the gearbox
- Gear box full of grease (yes i know it was grease)
- Flogged out bush on the input shaft
- Wrong cylinder block for the model

and the worst thing (I was a little embarrassed that i had not noticed this earlier)

- a large piece of cylinder wall missing !!!!

but its not mission impossible to get it going again but an expensive one

to console myself I did manage to get Graham to part with a wonderful little SJP that will become the pride and joy of my motley little flock.
