I would bet it's not English.
Check the threads for UK, US, europe, who made the spark plug, ignition, & carb.
Sorry mate.

Okidoke.... Its a horizontal Australian built Riptide. Probably late 50's... thought it might have been older. They have one in a museum here in Sydney. Actually, looking at the exhaust port and using Seagulls as a benchmark of design, the age would be about right.

Horizontally opposed twin - what a beauty!
Very interested to hear about how it performs and sounds when you've finished..
If only Seagull made those . . .

So a quarter of a proper car, then.

They sound just like a Seagull with less vibration, as both cylinders fire at the same time, they have a common crankcase.
It would be interested to learn what controls the induction timing, many people made motors of this layout, from the 1920s to the 1970s, smoother but heavy.
Most of them ranged from 4 to 8 hp.

Hi, looks like its based on a 20s Johnson, see
www.aomci.org , click on photo gallery, scroll down to the '25 and '29 Johnson motors. Looks like Tom Goepfrisch who I believe once owned a Seagull twin, has an interesting 50 hp radial from that era. Too bad some of the photos won't enlarge anymore.

Nice engine, but I don't think much of the boat that you have got it mounted on

Have the motor now. The lever at the base of the magneto moves the magneto plate so I can advance or retard the timing. Has spark on both pots so that is looking good. Carb is a SKC.... anyone come across one before? Very similar to the early Amal. Needs a replacement throttle cable, here's hoping an amal one will fit. Good compression.

The lever at the base of the magneto is comon to the OMC's and old johnson's i have two twins that work the same way, but the magneto plat operates the throttle as well and do run very smooth.
