good old ebay ....or not !!!

I was bidding on a quite tidy 102 in Gloucester ...nice little addition to the 'nest',.... so I thought

got beaten by Horsley Anorak here on the forum ...not a problem at all, and good for him, ....but I rather think that between us we were upping the ante on this item, which is crazy

personally, if an item is going to a Forum member, where it's going to be tinkered, tickled, fettled and cherished ...and not bust into bits for future re-sale ....I'm delighted to drop out of the frame ...or at least talk about it

must be a way of sorting this so we're not bidding against each other

so sorry HA if I pushed it up a bit ...just never realised

being 1/2 way, quite pleased to collect this on your behalf if you wish

Neal, old chap, I do rather suspect that what you are dangerously close to suggesting is actually a teensy weensy bit illegal.

It's a de facto 'ring', which is terribly frowned upon.

One should never ever have anything whatsoever to do with bad people who suggest such a thing.

Besides, another SD will undoubtedly crop up. There have been quite a few these past few months...

fixing the auction before hand would be againt e bay policy and I carnt see the moderator allowing it on here ..

Personally anyone who bids before the last 20 seconds is pushing the bids up ..

Say you really want it and think its going to go for 120 quid ...then bid 1200 quid 20 seconds from the end ....you will win it for 50p more than the highest bidder . If two of you are at the same trick and it goes very high you can always tell e bay you typed in an extra naught and withdraw the bid ....
This would be an ideal stratagy if you have agreed with other members that only you will bid

Tactics my boy Tactics... shonkey australian tactics

Sorry to all if I sniped that one.
I only ever bid once in the last 25 seconds.(why would you want to push the price up)
I think I won this by 1 pound.

Hope it is as good as it looks, if it is I will ditch the pair of forty featherweights, and use it instead for the 21st Seagull Race.

Glad I was not the only one who thought it was worth a punt.

Better still H.I.D. has allowed me to use her small economical car to go and get It. (must be love)

my dear Charles ...

thank you for the corrective homily, that in my haste and passion for the subject matter, I had regrettably over-looked

always prepared to be guided by my (nearly) elders and betters in this sensetive issue ....I stand in your debt ..<< appropriately doffs cap >>

nevertheless, should it ever happen that my juices are sufficiently moved, to be just SO excited by an offering on the 'Bay ....I shall inform the plebiscite here withall...as an act of public information of course, of the item on offer ...Thereby permitting and availing all and sundry to enjoin in the merry-go-round Ebay in it magnificence offers

PS .....
HA's creepiness in begging HID's motor to collect, sounds a bit like Clarksons 'reasonably priced' motor to batter round a test track

Found out why the man could not start this engine, It is seized solid.

Some you win some you loose.

Have filled with WD40.

Is there a magic method of freeing seized seagulls?

Should I go for the grease gun method.

Thanks

Nice honest motor. Apart from failing to mention that it was seized at least the chap didn't try passing it off as something that it isn't! (Like the guy selling tywo motors on the Bay right now, one of which is described as a 1935 OP, which has the bracket, carburettor and tank replaced with later, and more common, bits)

I do rather like these post-war 102s, and given a suitable clean (as well as freeing her up) she'll look good.

Penetrating oil is the right way to start. Are you absolutely sure it's seized in the cylinder? Quite often it's the bottom end, which is probably easier.

Patience is vital. Doubtless there will be many ideas coming up here about unseizing but grease through a modified plug is safe, albeit messy.

oh dear ...so there is a god after all

poor old H-A....<<snigger>>

all that way in a 'reasonably priced car' and no Stig to help

OK sniggering over, shades of schadenfreude put away ....

The stationary engine boys seem to advocate putting the siezed item into a bucket of diesel ....and forgetting about it for a week or 2 to let it penetrate

We could have a whole thread about embarassing eBay failures. I have had a few myself, including the 'excellent runner' that had more cracks in the block than a shattered windscreen, from the chap who died after I had paid and before despatch!

But a stuck piston is small beer, really.

I really can't see the Pistnbroke method of bidding being a sensible way forward, at least not with you and H-A bidding as well. There lies the path to bankruptcy, especially as eBay don't like people who bid and then claim it was a mistake.

No it is the topend that has seized, am trying thermal shock first.

Image[/img]

Have half filled the gap above piston with WD40, putback plug.

Cook the bird in a hot oven for a couple of hours. Yes she is out.

Will try grease next.

Reasonably priced car came from ebay, atleast that was not seized.

Reminds me of a recipe for cooking a Canad Goose:

Pluck & draw the bird
Cover with strips of bacon
Place in a medium oven on a roasting try, together with a house brick
Every 30 minutes, prod the house brick with a fork
When the brick is tender, your bird is cooked.

Serious note. Nice clean crankcase, no rust on the fasteners. What's the serial?

Serial No. AC 32528, the studs and nuts holding crankcase and head together are stainless, is that normal?

Hot WD40 Stinks, perhaps she will suss it!

Stainless isn't normal, but it's hardly a problem.

Never mind the smell, have you got her turning over?
