Seagull Forty plus Mk2 Depth adjustment

Because of weed problems I have to make sure that my forty plus is not too deep in the water. I can adjust the depth by loosening the two brass nuts on the leg and raising it. Gradually the vibrations cause the leg to drop again and the pivoting action of the tiller is very tight. What am I doing wrong. Perhaps the answer is to put spacers on the tube and leave the brass nuts slacker?
Any ideas?

hope I can help ...
I've had similar problems with weed, bloody stuff, where the water flow suddenly dries up, and your pride and joy is just peeing steam out of the water cooling outlet hole
you can get plastic seagull spacing collars (dreaded Ebay) that raise the whole affair in relation to the transom clamp.... about 2" per collar
it's advised that the clamp nuts are not done up so tight
A, as all the vibrations are then transmitted through the boat
B, rather obviously, it becomes more difficult to pivot the engine when manouevering

small diameter U bolt type exhaust clamp around the drive tube ..job done and adjustable .Local exhaust centre .auto shop or halfords. Ships chandeler if you want stainless..

There is a depth adjusting collar that can be fitted. I believe it is still available from John.
Essentially it is just 2 of the plastic caps that hold the drive shaft tube in the bracket bolted together around the tube, above the normal clamp, to hold the engine at the desired height. The normal clamp bolts ( Nuts on studs?) can then be backed off to give free rotation for easy steering

It is indeed one of those but normally it would be fitted ABOVE the bracket clamp.

Virtually anything that will clamp round a tube of that diameter will do.
I use a bicycle handlebar clamp.

There are people around these forums who fret about whether the seagull on the petrol tank is facing the right way or not for their particular model and you suggest using a bit of old bicycle instead of a proper depth adjusting collar.

Vic are you trying to make this forum more exclusive (approx 600 -1).
In general these type of very narrow niche interest forums suffer from lack of members.(this is zero interest to Joe Public)
Why would you want to turn people away.
Who would in todays world want a seagull?
Is it not better to encourage people to use the forum, not squash any interest?
I am slightly odd in the fact that I look at this forum, please don't put other odd people off!
My Anorak is well and truly used, almost worn out.
Support your Global niche forum!!!!!
