ngk ab6 spark plugs £1.50 on ebay

hi found ngk ab6 spark plugs on ebay for £1.50 & you only pay £1.50 p&p plus any extra ones you buy p&p is free, i got 2 inc p&p for £4.30 link

Great price, but not recommended for Seagulls.
think they might be resistor plugs.....
Anyone used one for a few months?

Resistor plugs would have an R in the number

I,ve used an AB6 all season on my 102, with no problems.
Only tried it when my local supplier ran out of A6.
Also sold a 40+ with one in it, and the buyer has been satisfied with performance and reliability.

The difference between an A6 and an AB6 appears to be the plug spanner size.

Well John, the UK NGK website currently lists both A6 and AB6 as equivalents to Champion 8 COM.
The site is set up to list NGK plug types against a vehicle, bike or tractor manufacturer etc and surprise surprise BS is not included!
It is an awkward database to use. The database also gives stock numbers for A6 and AB6 as 1010 and 2910 respectively but the rest of the database doesn't recognise these for datasheet purposes!
I'm pretty sure I have recently read elsewhere on an NGK site that A6 was out of production and had been replaced by AB6. From an NGK data chart I downloaded last year they are certainly both 18mm threads with 1.5mm pitch and the same temperature rating (6). As Vic points out the AB6 hex is smaller at 20.8mm across flats compared to the A6 at 25.4mm. (If anybody wants the old chart PM me.)
The UK eBay agricultural lawnmower/chainsaw type engineering stockists seem to be awash with AB6 plugs. I put 20 on the shelf last year off ebay at less than a pound each delivered and find them 100 % ok so far on my FP and WS. It is amusing to see eBay auctions listing AB6 plugs specifically for Seagulls at two to three times the price of plain AB6 plug auctions for tractors and such! And the higher priced "Seagull" AB6 plugs get more takers than the ordinary agricultural AB6's!

Well researched Peter.
I have not been able to buy A6 plugs from my local stockist for a year or more now, so I will be interested in these AB plugs.
Pleased you have had a chance to try them.
Wonder where they have all come from, old stock maybe?

I have now established that these are supposed to be the replacement for the old A6 plugs.
However I have not got my hands on one yet to confirm if the thread length is the same or as was thought, slightly longer.
The nut size is smaller, wonder if it will fit the SOS spanner?
The garden centre chap has removed his advert and despite contacting him by mail and phone, failed to come back. I think he only had 100 and they went on E Bay.
As the D16 plugs are increasing in price, falling value of the pound, these may be a cheaper alternative, if I can get a steady supply.
