Wow, how cool is that! It might be the very same motor. Couldn't be many of those motors in Oz in 1930!

The advert does say "an all Australian production" though. Pretty sure we didn't have performance motors made here then. Libel!

There were no outboard manufacturers in Australia back then, so the use of the words "an all Australian production" would have been in reference to the boat and fit up.

Don't know if its the same motor, but yes that would be pretty cool. I've traced back to a Bert Jones of NSW and prior to him, Noel Wenzel also of NSW, but both are now deceased, I have not been able to learn from whom Noel may have purchased it.

Need to spend more time probing the Ozboatracers forum. Lots of good info and pics there if you're into current and vintage Power Boat Racing in Australia.

Just checked on the date of the contentious artists rendering of the bow tie on a straight exhaust August 1950.

Up to June 1942 I have yet to find any seagull adverts. I think we can assume there were no dealers for the Marston downunder.

I did find that Dangar Gedye and Co were selling Motors (they later stocked Seagulls) Oct 36 Other Stuff until the Seagull appears.

The Australian powerboat and yachting monthly magazine is not providing much fruition. 1942 -48.

Looking at the write up about the British Seagull, I was surprised to see the carry handle available in 1948.
I do have an A4 ad for the tiller extension, engine cover and carry handle which has 11/57, I don't know if that's the date it was printed, most probably reprinted as time went on, as it shows a 102 with a flat top small rope pull flywheel, out the back exhaust, nipple gear case, an early aluminium cap small ears, brass SD style throttle lever and bow tie prop, the fuel line is a more like a model F style and not the normal seagull style.

It is rather surprising as I found this fore-mentioned carry handle (March 1950). So who was first. BS it seems but there looks like patent issues. Seagull had the Patent Reg number 852554. Are patents and dates on public record? The seagull article was published in November 1948.

Sydney seems a lot busier. Dates are indicative only. Not a conclusive list but what we know so far.

Thank you to Boyd for coming up with this lovely advert. First I have seen of this one. Trying to Date it. Anyone know what car it is? Another new distributor too! Anyone else have Australian Seagull adverts? Gull looks like it has sub-ejector with two blade prop. Jon what date range would that be.... early to mid fifties?
Edit: I think it is an Austin 10 which predates the Seagull.

And another label from Boyd. Thanks mate. I see they recommend Castrol DH250 gear oil. That is a high viscosity rating for a later motor.

A couple of interesting Australian Newspaper adverts just found.

The first represents the first advert I've found comprising text as well as picture of a Seagull 102, and is dated Dec 12 1940. Quality isn't the best but you can clearly see the references to the British Navy and the R.A.F. 4hp Standard and Clutched models, with 23" or 29" shafts.



The second refers to the clearance sale of 89 surplus 'New' Army Service Model 102's and is dated December 1946.
