Patrick from Fowey has just phoned to say he'll be there on the 21st.
He's got a real nice boat, a lot like RBT's but a bit shorter.

Oh dear, the Forum automatic notification system hasn't worked for me - I assumed with no SOS response since my last post on March 27th that there hadn't been any date fixed.
I'm afraid I shan't able to attend, my captain will be in Jersey and I wouldn't have have enough time now to prepare my mechanicals.
Also there has been a dramatic drop in personal mobility ability and HID wonders whether I could do it. There will be a waiting period to allow a new bottom end to be built for me.
No Chuky, that particular part does still appear to work ( indeed the drugs seem to have a slight Viagra effect) so no point in booking an early trip to see your mother in Tavistock . . .

Re: Proposed Seagull Marathon early next summer 2011 May/Jun
Hope it was an extremely large one.
I can hardly bloody walk at the moment and my joints sound like Libian rebels from their machine-gun pick ups.
After waking up several times during the Diatribe in Red above, I realised the only reliable engine I have has the carburettor in a place not acceptable to the powers that be - goodness I didn't realise it was to be a race complying to international regulations -
I could have promised not to open the throttle more than halfway and stayed near the back . . .

Was that the engine that came second to H-A at Christmas?
If we let 170s in, then the other Cornishman Patrick will be using his & I'll have to use mine & I could do it in less than an hour, not really cricket is it?
For this inaugural event we thought we'd make the playing field fairly level, three classes for 4 or 5 boats would hardly be a good start for what could be an annual event.

- I could fit a screw to the throttle lever which would only allow 1/2 movement - and paint it red -
- or turn the engine around and the boat goes backwards -
- or get a new, very fat, wide Captain who would stand at all times with arms stretched out wearing a large mac -
- row backwards with extremely large oars -
-stay in bed and watch the 'Disaster's at Sea' channel . . .

Will your motors do 20 miles?
Or are they like their owner just tooo fragile.

Twenty miles . . . twenty miles !!? That's across the Atlantic for an untried Seagull at present in bits. There are plenty of engines but in as found condition or cannabalised.
A 'correct' gearbox would need looking at, everything fitted up - then river testing.
And with three weeks; I've got the Fletcher in the water with engines running very smoothly. Still pressure for it to make that sea trip to Fowey soon. Still a lot of completion technicalities for my elderly frail body.
Then there's those trailer bearings . . .

The only cancellations grounds that are acceptable must be contained in a hand written letter from your mother!
