Quite a low % of engines seem to have brass carb bodies, to a slightly different design. No theories as to why brass except perhaps that was all that was available for a period. Brass carb bodies are quite common on pre war motorcycles Amal 276 carbs or similar. Brass float bowls do show up on ebay, though they are designed for slightly different carb bodies, but do fit.

On the subject of brass, I see SOS have got brass trumpets back in stock. Be quick! I wondered why no brass tillers seem to be showing up on ebay!

So this is the old style carb, with the higher logo, more brass and no throttle stop casting.

And this is a later style, notice the addition of the throttle stop casting on the later carb, unused as the seagull does not need it.

Brass bits hi body has no idle screw skin-tag.......
