I expect it will run ok with that bent rod, as it didn't break before there is no reason why it should now, as this is a collector's motor, good for short freshwater runs, not for trips to North Africa!

It takes a lot to bend a rod like that, I've only bent 1 & that was because the bigend seized, when it cooled down, it started & ran another 36 miles around Bermuda only seizing 1 more time.
That rod didn't like 6000 revs but was almost ok at 4200, I came 2nd in my class that day, but there were only 2 boats in it! can't remember which year, but was using a boat called Juk Hard, that was my first try around Bermuda.

Tough indeed!

The gap must be around 0.35mm. I have a feeler gauge that goes 0.50, 0.40, 0.30.
0.30mm pass through easily, 0.40mm stuck a little.
I can't measure compression but when I pull the cord I felt it has a lot. Firing in addition was stronger than in my silver century in my point of view.

I would just fettle that score on the crankshaft using some medium wet and dry. Nothing to lose sleep about.

It looks more like a fracture than a score on that picture, but it's a job to tell.

Any 102cc Seagull crank & rod will fit.

But your getting to the point of "beyond economic repair" why not refurb all the good bits & wait for one to turn up with a dead cylinder, I've seen 3 or 4 of those in the last couple of years, that were bought for spares.

There are very very few spare cylinders, but you've got one, lucky man!

In that point of view yes I am lucky. That cylinder looks in great condition. But I would prefer with a petrol tank and a flywheel (optional) to have a complete engine. Now the story will have to continue for some time plus more money to achieve my goal.

If I use a silver century crank assembly would that be fatal?

I have received almost every part I need thanks to the great generosity of Jan and Adrian. Thank you guys, my SD wouldn't become a complete engine without your support. And John's of course.

Everything is brass apart from the gray parts which is steel zinc plated.

I think it's obvious that this magneto had a hard life. I did what I could.

I don't know how these dents could be cured, filling and then grinding etc? I think I will leave it this way though. I don't feel bad about them, let's say they are scars of her hard life!

Dont worry about it i spose it sparks? thats the main thing!
and highly polished and mint doesnt look right on these old things not to me anyway...but then thats personal preferance.
but ye some butchers been at it with a hammer sometime in its life
btw john has new cover plates...not copper unfortunatly.
