That would be right for a 1946 motor. Brass tank, large seagull decal (like the Marston ones) and a bayonet fitting filler cap

Hence my theory that later SDs actually used some parts that were going to be fitted to the new range of model D and C engines. Such as the newly introduced flat magneto, chromed exhaust and drive shaft tube, new brass tanks, chromed water pipe, brass tillers and the new decal? Amd the skeletal bracket of course!

My tank is steel by the way, it's starting look rather nice...

Also upon a closer look the chrome on my exhaust has started to peel and blister. Could be back to brass then. 8)

anybody know who bought the D engine from Derbyshire?

I simply don't know the answers to all that! But some parts at least would have been held over as spares.

British Seagull knew they were going to have a problem selling 102s, it wasn't long after the war that reconditioned SDs were offered for sale at a generous discount - complete with a guarantee. Not By British Seagull, of course.

Nearly finished now, stripped the gearbox down to find perfect gloopy oil, all the gears are perfect, and there does not seem to be any wear in the bushes. :D

I also stripped the carb for an overhaul this afternoon. All found to be fine, just a quick clean up and new sealing washers required.

Has anybody got a spare thrust block catch for an early 102? Made of bronze I think.

Close, but the tank won't be ready for a week or two, and the exhaust needs a bit more work. I also need to make some more studs for the tilt support clamp.

If you get stuck on getting a thrust block catch, I have plenty of bronze bar about, I could make one up, if needed.

Replacement of clamp studs now done. Managed to drill out the old ones, whilst not damaging the original thread 8) Used some threaded A2 stainless bar, threads treated with hylomar prior to screwing in. Just need some brass nuts now.

Thats the bottom end finished, just need some brass chain to hold the pins. Anybody know where I can get it? The original stuff seems fairly ornate?

Why the bakelite tilt stop clamp? I see you have the metal original.

Sorry that shop is no more, closed 18 months ago.

Should be available from other hardware stores.

The chain you need is known a chandelier chain - it is still around.

The engine came with the black plastic clamp, but I have cleaned up an alluminium spare ready to go :P
