Looks like it's had a hard life, used in salt water and left on the back of a boat.

Barnicles growing on engines is always a worry.

Until a few months ago my favourite seagull was just a plain and simple 4 1/2 silver century , the perfect reliable hard worker.
Then I came accoss this beauty , never heard or seen this model before.
After reading on line here all the advice on improving the old seagulls I just couldn't believe and still tremble at the power this beast chucks out.
I've lost a couple of 12-13 foot allie dinghys with this on the back
so I've had to upgrade to a 14 fibre job.
I'm no mechanic bur I reckon this model must be pushing out at least 10 plus hp.
Does not possess the simple charm and grace of my older ones but obviously designed to suit the times.

Looks more like a Johnson 70 to me.

Pretty good.
A 91 Johnson 60 hp VRO
Uses a bit more fuel than any of my gulls so it doesn't get used too often.
Back to the real story.

hey you had me going for a moment, i was not signed in and could not see pics, read post and thought whats this little gull gem he is on about.
i bought a Johnson seahorse 4hp new in 81 it was a very reliable and robust engine but once dunked it did not come back to life as easy as my gull
and the medical bill to revive it hurt a bit but i did have a soft spot for it.

Nice and polite remarks. thanks. My son turned up straight after I had posted this, took one look at what I had done. and threatened to disown me.
The embarissment ( embarrisment?, embarisment? feeling awkward?) he said, having an idiotic old man.
Then he went further and threatened to never take money off me again, no matter the interest rate ( can't even recall getting any of the principal let alone interest).
And to top it off, never to borrow my car or van again .
Then he gave me 6 lagers for past favours and its the worst slop possible.
Its about time I let him know who his real father is.
