Float retaining pin does not look like the correct one.

It looks a little under size, but this should not stop it from running.

P.S. Picture of float bowl, main jet should not come off with float bowl. Main jet should be screwed into carb first then float bowl screwed onto jet.

Erm yes it is a temporary replacement for the pin which is at the bottom of the testing tank. :oops:

I had to replace it yesterday and it has had no effecton the operation of the float

Is the crankcase leak theory a valid one? If so I'll give it a go with the WD40....

I have a working villiers carb from a 40+, if I fit it to the 90 should it work? That way I could eliminate the carb as the issue (or not)

Could well be, post some more pictures of the engine it may narrow it down a bit.

P.S. 40+ carb fits a 3/4" stub so will not fit a 90.

All 400 series carbs have the same size inlet holes in their castings, the same 416 body was used on all the seagull models up to the Osprey.

I've just found a 416 1 & mine is a pumped carb with a brass rubber tipped needle.
Can you post a pic with the float & needle removed so we can see the hole where the needle fits.

The amal carb has just told me that he intends to get an agent and charge a fee, and the 40+ is sulking in the corner and will not speak to me now........

.....or have I inhaled too many petrol fumes :lol:

What does YASP standfor? All I could find was Youth Alternative Sentencing Program. Though I guess EFNR's are relative youths compared to their older siblings.

Ok I am feeling a little bit sheepish that I did not notice this earlier. SWMBO demanded her bin back as it's collection day tomorrow so as i lifted the gull out and propped it up against my worktable I noticed this:

So I am guessing that the block and crankcase need to come apart and be cleaned before reassembly?

I was flushing my 102 this evening, and got the 1/4" bsf spanner to tighten the cylinder to crankshaft studs.

whilst washing it with a soapy brush around the crankcase cylinder joint, the engine speed picked up.

That could be why it was a little off colour yesterday Charles.

I have had a featherweigh, that whilst underway started making wheezing noises. That was the two bolts that bolt the cylinder on had come loose. It had got so bad that it stopped.
I always carry a couple of spanners in my pocket, I tightened up the two bolts and used the engine for the rest of the weeks holiday on the Norfolk broads with no problems.

In your case Gaffers I would try a 1/4 BSF nut on the stud, tighten them all up and you may find it is all OK.
