Now just need a 13/16 x 24 tap (anyone got one).

New coil on the way from George, will be running by the weekend.

Are those UK Amal trumpets going to be as long, elegant and voluptuous as HA's?

Not able to find a 13/16 24tpi thread in my screw thread book.
Why not use your lathe?

John will have a batch of those air trumpets in plain brass or chrome plated in about a month.

From what I can see 13/16 x 24 is a fine whitworth thread.

Not very common, so I will make a tap as I only need 2 trumpets.

Niander I will give you a trumpet if you make it to the Thames do. :D
I have put an unplated fuel cap on the engine now, the drive tube is a little rusty in places so I will ask the local tame platers if they will electroplate zinc.

It is a runner, runs well pumps well.

It will go to the Thames.

New coil was all that it need, George from Villiers parts popped one in the post yesterday afternoon and I got it this morning.

It is very long though, I am tempted to cut it down to standard length.

Ended up screw cutting the internal thread (13/16 x 24)

Engine starts much better with it fitted

Now I have too many trumpets, I will need to buy more projects :D

Niander the coil came from George at villiersparts.co.uk it cost £50.00, that was more that the whole engine.

Did you want to swap a cap for a trumpet?

The more I look at this engine the more tempted I am to grab the angle grinder, if future generations of Seagull enthusiasts want to return it to long shaft then they can. There is a fair change that the use of smelly 2 strokes will be banned in my life time anyway. If I am to use it then it could do with being shorter.

see i told you he wanted my cap! :P

wow £50 thats a lot!

how did you test the coil?

is it all base metal..polished or have you painted some things?

i agree about cutting it down..i would to make it useable...but i wont need to myself as my folkboat is big enough...when i get it fixed up next year :D

The only painted bits are the steel tiller arm tube and the steel tank.
The rest is just cleaned up, I have resisted the urge to polish, as I prefer the "as it left the factory" look. The prop I polished because I believe it would have been polished.

The coil I tested as per the FAQ on Johns main site.

Yes the angle grinder will be out this week :D
