Right, some of the more observant viewers of my premier production may have noticed that I was having a spot of bother with the throttle cable.... I fixed it. Apart from the lever mechanism is shot, I needed to cut the cable to be able to thread through the carb adjuster and also shorten it. It was a cable from Amal carb and a tad different but the leaded ends were the same. Process I used.

1. Using blu-tack I made a mold of the cable end (lever end)

2. I filled the well with melted lead solder and also tinned the end of the cut cable. (tinned means cleaning end of cable with flux and applying solder and then wiping off with wet rag, inspecting to make sure solder has pregnated cable)

3. Heating solder in well with electric soldering iron I placed cable into the well whilst apply heat.

4. After cooling..... finished product.

I did have to do it three times to get the length perfect. The end fitted in lever with no filing required.

Note the white protective cover.

Thanks Brendan for the destructions!

Two on a transom. We might risk this!

Cheers Hugo

I heaved the points and condenser from mine just now as they were troublesome and too much bloody smoke.

Electronics in, what a difference!

What a beautiful note! Reminds me of a BSA twin. I'm assuming less smoke as it is combusting more efficiently. Would it be rated higher than 4hp now? Noted you have the prop off. Mine is having trouble sucking in water in bin with prop on.

Thanks for the nice comment Mate!

More than 4Hp? Probably not old son just runs crisp now and yes I have had a couple of oil leak BSAs in the 70s.

I took the prop off mainly to see whether it “four Stroked” with no load while swinging off the advance lever etc. Just a case in point for me actually. I have run it, video previous with 3 blade prop in bucket and it pumped OK if orientated correctly. I have two other different two blade props as well. One weedless and the other same pitch etc as the heavy 3 blade.

Four stroking test?

Idle at 1000rpm full advance, yes it does. Idle at 1000rpm at retard, no it does not.

I have heard from an old mate, he had a few when younger, that 16:1 is the way to go. I believe him as he also grew up with Britannia’s as well.

EARLY Brits run 16:1 nicely I know.

Old Dears are Cool!
