I don’t know that it was on the forum, but I had mentioned to Charles UK that I was interested in casting mine to make a few more for a mate over here.

It wouldn’t be till later in the year, after a bunch more research. Also, anything we do would be done in the backyard, so to speak. But if we go ahead with it and it works out I’ll touch base to see if anyone else is interested.

2 disclaimers though, 1 - materials are VERY expensive over here, nevermind shipping; and 2 - I’ve cast a few small things in ali but certainly have no where near the experience & know how as others & brass is a different beast.

Still interested in learning, to give it a shot in the near future, though.

Casting would be a useful skill to have but it does sound a tad complex.

It’s the safety issues that worry me most. I need to confirm my driveshaft clamp/support lug (?) is brass & not bronze first, too.

Anyone else with one in their collection that can confirm?

Check with the internet & let us know what's the difference between brass & bronze, as the first step.

Have you cleaned one you yet Hugo? Do you think it will fit? Hope you have a good sharp file.. better still a "Dremel". if you use a stone fill it up with wax, it will stop it from clogging (same for Alli) you can do the same for sanding disks and cut off wheels!

Most of the older parts will more than likely be bronze. If it is brown (when cleaned up a bit) then it is bronze. If it cleans up to be more of a yellow then it is brass.
The modern stuff is a little different... the V strut is manganese bronze (yellow) It is copper, zinc and manganese and is as hard as all hell!
The old stuff is more than likely copper, tin and lead. (brown) and soft as poo!

If there is no time restraint on a part then I could more than likely cast it myself. As long as the part is not cast iron ans not over 12Kg including gates and runners I can do it.

I also have a small lathe if the parts need to be finished..... But the more I do the more it will cost. The V struts I got as mates rates so the next lot will cost more... how much more, I don't know.

I did do a little interwebs reading a while back when I got it, and initially figured the piece to be more likely brass rather than bronze as I thought I saw more yellow/gold in it than brown/reddish when I cleaned it up... but i'm really not sure. Just hoping someone with expertise might also have one and know for sure.

Ask John Russel if he knows anyone with access to an XRF in BM.
