Hmm ,interesting.
Keep us updated with some pics Jacob.
But as the boys have already said, BS did do a few "oddball" low number production runs in order to shift some old stock from the shelves.
One of the interesting things with a lot of seagull motors was the fact that newer parts could easily be paired with older parts and vice versa.
I think BS called it "star changeability".
Something of a bug bear of mine when it comes to working out what parts are original to a particular year etc.

I just purchased a seagull outboard. It's serial need is WSPCL1897CC4. I think it is a barge pusher. It has a clutch that will put it in and out of gear.

Not a barge pusher, it's a Century plus, the same gear ratio but with an 11" diameter prop.
The Barge pusher is a nickname that's been awarded to a 102 with a 13 inch prop & a 4 : 1 lower unit,

Depends on which side you speak to.
To keep things as simple as possible here, some people (not all of us) relate a "bargepusher" to the older round block 102 motors. For the most part this is true and it's the nickname that's stuck, however i refer to the bargepusher bit as the gearbox/prop combination that particular motor currently has.
Big gearbox and prop= a bargepusher. Either way they're both (102 and century variants) a large but slow spinning prop that's geared right down compared to the other more slender/sleeker variants within both sets of engines which have a higher gear ratio but with a smaller diameter prop.
Once you've seen a few more pictures of both types of gearboxes/props you'll start to see the bigger differences at a glance.

Your determined to wear out my typing finger aren't you Jon.
In the Century series motors the 4 : 1 lower unit has always been referred to as the plus box as that's what Seagull calls it, & in the 102 series either the plus or the barge pusher.
They've been called that for more than 20 years to my knowledge.

We are going to have a bit of a problem if misinformation is sowed on this forum. Accuracy is important or this forum will lose credibility as being the first stop in gaining Seagull knowledge whether that be technical or historical.

I agree lasts keep the information tight and correct. The bargepusher has always been the nickname for 102 plus models only. If we start mixing up up names and facts it will all be confusing.
Or perhaps we can start calling the FVP a bargepusher
