Saving Old Seagulls

High temp paint is OK on barrel, but I find it washes off the tank. I painted my tanks with two pot epoxy paint. They seem to be OK. To refit the drive shaft in the exhaust flange I use a press, gives you a lot more control when lining things up. Not a lot of force needed. Also make sure you don't push the shaft in to far.

Does anyone have any tips for cleaning the inside of the tank , mine is full of that green stuff you get on brass (corrosion?)

A cupful or so of driveway gravel, and hot water with dish soap in it. Shake for as long as it takes. Remove fuel tap first so you don't mess up the fuel strainer screen.

I used caustic soda Granuals. Tip a generous amount in the tank. Pour a bit of water till about half full, Screw on the cap and SHAKE"__SHAKE"__SHAKE". Be careful when you handle the tank. It gets bloody hot because of the reaction created.Leave it sit for a while, And drain and flush out. I had to do my tank 3 times till it was clean. The first lot will come out Black like Coca Cola.

Can anyone please tell me how far to push the drive shaft housing into the exhaust flange , maybe a picture would be helpfull
does it go flush with the flange ?

Im almost ready for reasembly just waiting on parts turning up in the post.

Better spread that cotter pin on the left one before losing the prop!

Your square drive shaft will indicate how deep the shaft housing must get. Or check this picture. It should not get to the chamber with the bigger diameter.
I hope you get the idea... The method with the shaft is the most secure.

The driveshaft tube should be inserted until the end of the tube is level with the uppermost edge of the chamfer at the top of the water pump impeller housing.

Don't use the square drive shaft as an indicator as many of the models have different height pinion shafts & what might be right for one could be very wrong for another.
