Could you send us a sample of your DNA? the other Charles & I would like to clone you, a couple of Pats helping us with our research
I'm not sure that's a good idea, I don't think the world could cope with more than one of me! I got lucky for once finding a picture of the oa in the BCL museum. Thanks for filling us in on what type it is.
Just thought I’d share this sad tale of a Marston with you.
About 55 years ago my father owned a clinker built sloop that was kept on a tidal mooring on the River Avon near Bristol. The boat had an inboard Stuart-Turner engine and a Seagull as an auxiliary.
On a particularly wild night the boat broke her bow line and as the tide ebbed she swung round and settled on an iron spike that someone had driven into the silt as a temporary mooring and punctured the hull.
The next tide filled the boat with water and unfortunately it was some time before we became aware of this and were able to patch the hull and pump out and re-float her. When we got round to trying to resurrect the Seagull it was found to be solidly seized and as the motor was not considered to be of much value it was consigned to the scrap yard.
I now know that this was a Marston Seagull because of the distinctive teardrop shape of the cast alloy exhaust but exactly which model is unknown.
I can remember being in the sea scouts. We had load of seagulls, including all sort of old ones at the back of the boathouse. The other week I had a look and all I could find was a 102 prop and century tank with a "Sawley bridge marina" sticker. Part of my youth! All the old stuff went in the skip about 1995 apparently. Damn!
