In 1991 these cost over $1000 Aus in the UK excluding GST & that is the dealer price, now add shipping, import duty, dealer margin, we've got to be looking at $1500 + retail in Sydney for a 64cc Seagull.

Any of our members remember what a home in the suberbs cost in 91 or a 5 hp yamaha.

I think the cost makes them a non viable export item, I recon it traveled out there with a £10 pomme or a yatchsman.

In 91 I be surprised if they had more than 25 staff let alone a marketing manager, Charlesp what say you?

I've just been up to the Smoke to see my film debut, the applause was, well, astonishing. A young blonde turned round and told her chum - 'look it's him in the audience'. A small part in a low budget film, to be sure, but hey, what a buzz. Upstaged by, would you believe, a speaking part taken by Harry my cat. But what an experience. Outside, in the foyer, I was a bit shocked that I wasn't mobbed by lush young groupies demanding my autograph. That was possibly because Current Primary Woman was gripping my arm with a proprietary determination...

Back to the question. Actually I rather liked the way this thread is going and I'd hate any reality to creep into it. I'm happy with the motor sitting on the back of a boat all the way to Australia. If you set off from the Town Quay with the tide just right you can lop an hour or two off the time. Just possibly there's a vast remote fuel tank out there of a type I don't know about that would be useful on such a trip.

But surely they would have used a Kingfisher?

If your going that far you would have a boat big enough to have an inboard diesel, but a most of the world doesn't have parking spots a days sail apart, a rubber duck with a small outboard is needed that is light enough to be stowed aboard, just to get to the shops & to check the passage into small bays & to drop the stern anchor, when it takes that long to get where your going, parking charges add up very quickly.

The ten pound pom scheme was discontinued in 1972 and then a seventy five quid scheme finished in 1982 so that's out. Incidentally the Bee Gees came out as ten pound poms. I came over free as a kid of tpp.

Bit random but my Metzeler came over from 'the old Dart' as part of an inheritance to the son (not me). Manufactured about the 70's.
