have given up ,tried everything that people have said to try and get my fortyplus working but still no joy,
when i spin it with a powerdrill and put the ht lead against the block its sparking ever so faintly but not enough to jump a gap and spark,dont know what to do now so will be buying a complete magneto and coil,points,surely then it must work ,what else could it be ,if i replace the complete ignition system that must work.
i,m not a quitter as you can see from the thread before this but it,s beat me ,i,ve done the multimeter test and it looks okay but no spark so thanks again for the advice maybe better luck next time.

Frank, obviously you have checked everything including the condenser (Seperately).

I suppose you noted that when assying the points box with all of its goodies, you noted where the insulating washers and little bushes were? Maybe one of the fibre or plastic (Maybe) insulators is not 100%. Partial earthing of points on condenser side through a duff insulator will screw you around a tad. Also, if you have been soldering around, maybe flux bridge could be the problem.

Remember that car plug leads usually have built in resistance, I believe to reduce radio interference, and usually implemented by making them from carbon fibres. The important measurements are from the HT stud to the backplate.
