Good job there with the block, take it there were no cracks then. Thanks for posting the pics.

Think it could be time for a new gearbox oil seal don't you? the EFNR gearbox should be sealed, running on EP90 oil and have practically no emulsion in there at all ....

Waggles - you are quite right. The oil change came from my WSPCL. I reckon there is too much in that jar to fit in the efnr gearbox.

I could not see any cracks in the bore but I take on the points already made about how difficult they are to spot. I put as much light as I could down the bore and couldn't see any sign of a crack.

Picked up a 170 today in absolutely stunning condition. My efnr may be taking second place in my preferred Seagull list - but don't tell it Shhh!
