Fixing leaky fuel pipe

Post by Bergie »

Maybe this has been mentioned. The hard rubber fuel pipe had a leak at the crimp because it started pulling out. I fixed it by opening the crimp then dunking the pipe in boiling water to soften it up. I pushed it back in over the lips of the nozzle while still burning hot. The crimp I closed with a big flat screwdriver, tapping gently near the corner of each end so it looks square again. (I can't imagine how it was crimped in the first place! )For fun I dunked the fuel pipe again in boiling water, and reconnect it to the tank and carburator while still hot to give it that nice curve again. Just remember to let the first bit of fuel drain straight out the carb to get water out.
