leaking oil

Post by clive »

Hi there, I am new to this game having just got hold of a forty plus MkII, abandoned in a loft for a while, I have fitted new carb cable and it runs fairly well, but seems to be leaking a lot of oil from the exhaust shaft, on to the gearbox...can anyone tell me if this is usual....!! :?:
many thanks

Quite normal for a seagull, some leak more than others. Seagull recommends wiping down with an oily rag after use. When you store it standing up set it in something to catch the drips. When they have seen considerable use, the inside of the exhaust tube gets a coating of carbon residue when excess oil runs through this it picks up the black coloring.
If its a '68 or later motor and still running on 10:1, converting to 25:1 will help some.
