Feeling confused. I replaced the throttle cable on my EFNR gull and something isn’t right! The carb is an Amal 416 and it won’t close properly when the cable is attached to the thumb lever.
It closes perfectly when it is not connected so I have ruled out friction or obstruction in the carb / jet itself.
The inner and outer cables are the same size as those removed. It did tick over but not rev under load so I stripped and cleaned the carb and replaced the cable.
Now it just won’t close properly. It is as if the inner cable is an inch too short.
There are no ferrules stuck in either end, and no obstruction.
I am thinking it is just a miss sized cable.
Any other ideas?

Re: Amal 416 carb issue
From your first pic we can't see how much the inner is longer than the outer.
Is the cable outer sitting at the right depth in the throttle lever body?
I've just measured a new 400 series throttle cable, 83.5mm between the ferrule & the bottom of the throttle slide pip.

Re: Amal 416 carb issue
Thank you for the details. For some reason my cable seems to be short. I make it just under 75mm from the ferrule to the tip.
I will order a new cable!

Screw the throttle cable adjuster screw on the top of the carb down as far as it will go.

Is the bullet on the end of the cable fully seated in the carb slide?

Re: Amal 416 carb issue
All sorted now. I shortened the outer cable. I deciddd to do this with the inner in place as opposed to melting and resoldering the blob. Tricky but successful.
Now it just stalls when going into gear.
I will start another post.
