villiers ignition upgrade
hi have acquired 40 plus SJP with Villiers mk1 ignition with sparking fault will be picking engine up at weekend and will investigate problem assuming I may need secondary winding or re-magnetising can any one help with parts would it be more cost effective to upgrade to newer ignition/flywheel which is most reliable thanks
Re: villiers ignition upgrade
It may just need the points cleaning and adjusting, or a new HT lead. However to ensure reliability a new coil will be a good idea. Villiers parts stock these.
Re: villiers ignition upgrade
Thanks Oyster49 guess if original coil lasted 54 years cant be too unreliable!
Re: villiers ignition upgrade
Yes you can't grumble, but the villiers coil is a known weak link. the moisture causes the inner windings of the coil to deteriorate and fail, so a modern replacement will give peace of mind, as they are made with modern materials. Try villiersparts.co.uk
