What's up with the original block?

Cracked/split? (or is it just blocked up and not pumping water)
I have 1 or 2 spare but they are much later 1950's onwards with no core plug in them.
Does your original block have these core plugs fitted? (The earlier blocks had 2 different types of core plug, either a slotted version which is identical to a gearbox drain plug, or a hex head version. Unfortunately the plugs ARE NOT interchangeable as they have a different thread) The later versions had a "pressed in" type of core plug. The really critical thing to remember is with the transfer port, as there must be 5 or 6 different cylinders for a 102, all slightly different in their own way

how original do you want this? are you looking at restoring the motor or just getting it going again?

pm me as i have a few spares kicking about or if you want advice i'm more than happy to talk you through everything. (i've done loads of theses)
anything else you need?

Any of the long water jacket 102 blocks made from 1946 onwards will happily fit your 1948 motor.

There are, it's true, minor differences. But none of them are in any way important unless it is a restoration aiming for 100% authenticity.

A block from an SD is a short water jacket item, and won't be right for you.

charlesp, would like to restore as close as possible to original, but getting it running again is the most important
