Pinger these are the only pics I can find, this is the twin on a hover boat, this is the work of the mad professor at his worst!

Presumably, at least one of the bushes in each engine converted to rolling element bearings - to counter the pull of the chain.

My plans are still so far up in the air I might end up with an aeroplane engine....

Quite a secure containment area, I'll see if I can get a picture of one of the armed guards, this place is the New Zealand equivalent of America's skunk works!

Interesting thread. The 'Kiwi" moniker attracted my attention.
I am thinking along the lines of "why re-invent the wheel"?
Some 10 years or so ago a British marine engineering company connected to the off-shore cigar racing boats gave a couple of new interns a 105 and told them to perfect it, to see what they were made of, - the interns not the motor.
Comments of ' out of balance', built like a tank, crude casting etc come to mind.
Anyway the 105 was skimmed, polished, tuned, ( spun at 50,000 rpm etc ) to the highest degree imaginable.
All components original and when tank tested , the 5 hp was developing 15 hp.
The only problem was the crown wheel could not take the extra load /speed, and overheated and shattered.
A higher grade wheel was machined to overcome the problem, the only non-standard part.
Because of the thinned walls etc, it was estimated that the motor would run for approximately 15 hours before exploding.
Shipped to God's own and put on a 16' Tinny for testing.
At 35 knots the driver chickened out as the boat started to do a 'Bluebird".
His dream of breaking all Waikato race records went down the gurgler.
Unfortunately a garage fire destroyed the motor before it could be fully put through its paces.
So, perhaps you do not have the equipment to spin out the parts at 50k,- but a good balancing of original pieces might be the ticket and not installing alternate parts?
