Hello. This is my first time on here so hello everyone. Straight in with a question. On the villiers carb on my engine. When the top cap screws into the carb to hold the cable adjuster. Even when screwed down hard the bronze cap doesn't fit tight to the carb. Is this normal or should there be a gasket of some sort. If I pull the cable by hand the cap moves up and down a bit. Sorry if this is too technical

Hi and welcome
The screw on cap should screw right down. Can you post a photo to show us the problem?

I'm at work tonight but will do tomorrow. The outer screw cap screws down but the part the cable screws into is not tight. It lifts slightly up and down
Re: 1961 40+
Ah yes, that should be tight. I suspect that the threads are clogged up, preventing the screw collar going right fully down.
Re: 1961 40+
Thanks for that. I'll have a look. I thought it might be some way of turning off the engine that I had never heard of

Yeap, maybe some thread cleaning is the answer. Be also careful. The part that moves has a "tooth" underneath and the carb body a dimple. The "tooth" should get into the dimple.

thanks i think i have sorted it. i hadnt screwed it down enough, needed a bit of persuasion and i was being too gentle. its fine now. just some petrol and gearbox oil and i can fire up the beast
