How fast is fast ?
With the new smart phones or a small handheld gps it's relatively easy to get a solid indication on how fast you are going .
Every thing else being even(and we know it's not) i'm interested to know what speed people have achieved in a non planing hull with a stock sliver century or a stock 102 for that matter . if it's not stock it's not relevant and those 170 and sport motors , well they aren't even seagulls are they so they don't count : ))

Re: How fast is fast ?
I just had a look on my Magellin handheld gps to see what was the fastest speed was from the other day. 10.55 KPH I dont know what that is in Knots. That was with my machined down prop at WOT 3980--4000rpm on a flat tide. (No current running in or out) Thats using a 100 century on a 10ft tinny with an all up weight of 285kgs.
Re: How fast is fast ?
That's 5.67 knots.
Re: How fast is fast ?
My phone GPS measures my '76 Silver Century (WS) pushing a 12'6' fibreglass non-planing hull at 11 Kph.
It does this at half or full throttle (just more noise at WOT)

Re: How fast is fast ?
I can get a steady 6 knots on flat water with a 102 on a heavy 16 foot rowing boat. Interestingly the boat speed is about the same with an FPC engine. Next summer I am going to play about with my 102 with different props and a rev counter etc. to see what the actual difference is.

I'm all for more noise , it helps to drown out the whine from the one with man flu ! WOT is good !

Re: How fast is fast ?
I was out on the lake testing two seagulls i'd built on sunday, a '47 102 and a '77 feather weight on a 10ft fiberglass dinghy two up, 102 managed 7mph but was running way too low in the water and barely making half revs (water level was at water pipe in exhaust) and the little 40 managed 5-6mph

We're currently maxing out at 16.5 kmh on Paris. That's with a standard silver century motor and the 5 blade bedroom fan.
