What Gasket material

Having striped the lower part of the powerhead on my Yamaha 2A i need to make new gaskets.

At first i was going to order the normal brown paper type gasket material. But then i thought this wouldn't be adequate with it being exposed to the hot exhaust gases.

The original material is black in colour and seems to be similar to a paper type material.

What material do i need to buy to make these gaskets?

I have used this

in the same location on OMC 6HPs with no problems, 1.5mm thick. Punch the holes out first before you cut out with a sharp knife.

That is the stuff i found originally but then i was concerned with the heat it will be exposed to.

Did you use any sealent or just use the gaskets dry?

Dry as per original installation.

You will need something that will endure in high temperatures. Permanite must be the material you need, there are some heatproof categories.

Another matter you have to consider is the thermal conductivity of the new gasket. It must be the same as the old one if heat is designed to be transferred through this gasket. For example you can't use permanite gasket between cylinder head and block in a seagull outboard because it won't transfer the heat as the copper gasket does and the cylinder head will overheat.

The gasket material as the link above will be fine.

Use dry or a thin smear of engine oil with the finger both sides.

Light oil or never seize on fasteners.
